Nano's first time

Now don't anyone get upset by this picture, it is old. This is my bestie Nancy. She had never been to a live production of anything! We went to the Plaza Theater on 16th and Classen October 27th to see Sweeney Todd! Tears could be pooling in my eyes now just speaking of it! It was amazing! The theater is a smaller venue. There is no curtain and their wasn't enough budget for elaborate set designs but it didn't matter. The production was magnificent! If you could see us grasp hands in excitement over hearing Mrs Lovett's solo you would have thought you had found the two biggest nerds.

So- just by chance, that evening's performance was followed up with a Q-and-A with the cast. I had never had that opportunity so we decided to stick around. I was facinated how these actors could sing so beautifully while using a Cheapside London accent. We decided that I would ask that question. I never did. The first question goes a little like this, and I am paraphrasing:

"Since the original production took place during the Industrial Revolution, did you find yourselves finding parallels with the poverty and failed business of today while preparing your character?"

GAG! I will never call myself a nerd again.... at least for a while. I think I have a somewhat intelligent mind, but I felt stupid in that room. It was fun to listen to the conversation though :) Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is my new favorite hands down!

Feed Me Seymour!

This is my view from the "Grand Tier" at the Civic Center. I was on row "A". These seats were good, but I prefer center row B in the pit. I am a chair snob! I want to see facial expressions, do you blame me!?! I haven't watched Little Shop of Horrors in a long time. I am talking 15 years at least! I have only seen the Rick Moranis version, fyi. I was completely surprised when the songs came back to me! I was singing along and laughing! It was great! I will say that Orrin the Dentist was distracting. I usually can separate past characters I have seen, so the performance isn't ruined, but oh how I wish Steve Martin was on stage! The guys who were Audrey 2 (mechanically that is..) were amazing.

I had a great time and I went alone. There was a crazy lady talking about her couples therapy that was annoying but overall a successful evening! I also learned by reading the Bill that SWEENEY TODD WILL BE IN OKC IN OCTOBER!!!!!!!! .....Have you seen my cat? I am so there!

2009 Opera Season!

I am out of control! I purchased season tickets to the KC Opera! Someone disable my internet connection! I, like always, take things too far. I wanted to add more arts to my life and I am now a little obsessive about it!

I am extremely excited about the season I must admit. Opera touches my soul. I bawl like a baby! It's bonus too because I can go hang out with mom! I am making her go with me. She thinks its okay. She is not a nerd like me. I lose myself in the love, the conflict, and the heartache. I totally get immersed into a great story. Hmmm I think my dweeb is showing. :)

Feed Me Seymour!

So I am excited for The Little Shop of Horrors! I love Rick Moranis in the movie and I have high hopes for the stage production. It will be here in the middle of August. I have awesome seats of course, I am a snob about seating charts. I am going alone. I didn't ask anybody. I love my "me" time! I am going to eat dinner alone and go to the show alone and LOVE IT! No talking for 4 hours at least! I might even leave my phone at home! I have been surrounded by people whether it is at church or work or dates or swimming! AARRRGGG!

Long story short, it has been too long since I ate a meal at a place by myself. Jessica says I am crazy about this but I don't care. I am a pushover in a group, always doing what everybody else wants, so anytime I can blow everyone off and do what I want to do I jump at the opportunity! I tried to do that at the art museum but it was closed. Anyhoo, I think it's healthy to have an occassional dose of alone time. Good music, good food and no mindless chatter! :) (I fear I will make a good curmudgeon someday)

Museum Day

So I decided to go to the art museum downtown. I had the day off and I have never been there. I go and find my way downtown. It only took me two passes to get where I needed to go. (my sense of direction is appalling) I park in the lot. It is crazy to pay $8 to park but the meters are only for 2 hour parking and I planned on being their longer to view the Cezanne exhibit! So I am excited! I pay the pay box by shoving my money in the #7 slot and walk to the museum.

The museum is closed on Mondays.

Broadway!

I went to see The Drowsy Chaperone last night and it was hilarious! It's really weird too! It's about a guy who loves listening to Broadway on the record player and you watch a Broadway musical from his imagination. He has monologues throughout the play and he speaks directly to the audience. It is so bizarre and crazy and funny! I went with my friend Diane B from down the street. I never would have considered going and I am so glad that I did. If you ever get the chance to see this, DO IT!!!!!

Ballet Oklahoma Season 2009-2010

Well, I purchased my season tickets for the Ballet! I am C-ORC row B seats 107 and 108! Row B is extra wide so I don't have to stand up to allow people to pass! The season includes The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Nutcracker Suite, Giselle, and Thr3e by Thr3e. I have no idea what 3x3 is but I do know that OKC will have two principle dancers on loan for Giselle!

There's No Place Like Home

So on Friday, March 27, 2009 Jessica and I went to see the wizard! It was spectacular! Big Bravo to the stage hands working the wires! If I were a flying monkey I would have been terrified to be slung around the stage. The wirework that was used when the tornado swept through Kansas was awesome! It was great to see Dorothy flying in the air hanging on to the silo like she really was in a tornado. Ballet Oklahoma had this cool screen that is transparent so you could still see the stage but you could also see wind and lightning.
Emily Fine played the Wicked Witch and she was super fab! I have never seen such quick feet in a ballet dancer. Her part only allowed her to be seen sporadically, but I wished she were on stage for much longer!! She got the biggest reception at the the bow.

I did buy season tickets for the 2009-2010 Ballet Season! The four shows are The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Nutcracker, Giselle, and Thr3e by Thr3e. I have no idea what 3x3 is about!

Culture out the Wazoo!

So an item on my "Change my Life for the Better" list includes Attending More Theater. So March 7th I will be at Tinseltown to see Madame Butterfly transmitted live from The Met. It's pretty cool. I went in January to see Orfeo ed Euridice. It was hard to see Orfeo as a man since it was sung by a WOman but I liked it.

Next week, February 25th, 2009 Dad, Jessica, Jordan and I will go to the Civic Center to see some clogging! Believe it or not Jordan is thrilled to see this! He is so bizarre with what interests him. Seriously it varies from Rap music, Western Movies, Classic Cars, Peas and Carrots, and Michael Flatley. Jessica bought the tickets really for Jordan and she was generous enough to include me and Dad.

I am even travelling to see theater! Jessica and I will have a quick vacay over spring break in Kansas City to hang out with Mom and I am surprising them with tickets to La Traviata! I am not that nice if I am being totally honest. I couldn't find three tickets together so I am sitting in the orchestra pit and I am sticking Jessica and Tracy in the balcony! I know, it's highly selfish but they didn't mind sitting away from me during Riverdance so I will press my luck this time. If you didn't know, La Traviata is what Julia Roberts' character watched in Pretty Woman, so I have high hopes. I don't mind sitting alone. Besides, Jessica likes to laugh at me when I cry.

Finally March 27th, Jessica and I will see Ballet Oklahoma's production of The Wizard of Oz at the Civic Center! I am truly in love with this story. Eons ago, I was a munchkin as a 2nd grader in the Central Junior High program in Moore Oklahoma! It totally killed my buzz for being a performer. My mom said I need to stand out so I was the only 'Lullabye girl" in red striped footie pajamas. I was so embarrassed. (That is not a "made-up memory") I realize now that I was the only one to stand out, but I can remember wishing I was in a pink nightgown like all the other girls. Which is laughable now since I now have an extreme allergic reaction to all things pink.

I hope I can keep up my trend with theater. I don't waste my money on manicures, pedicures and other such nonsense. (Who really wants to pay to get a fungus?) Hopefully, I can save enough moulah to become a season ticket holder! (Now that would be cool)
