My little reader!

I think it is working! My plan is to turn Marren into a "reader" without her being aware of it as she gets older. I love to read and am still able to read 1-2 books a week as a single parent. I have books for Marren EVERYWHERE! Her room, the car, the living room, books for the bath, books for her stroller.... You name the place and chances are there is a book waiting for her. Nancy, Marren's Nano, my best friend said that when she goes to her toybox she pulls everything out and takes her the BOOKS! YAY!

Marren loves to climb in the toy crates Nancy keeps for her. She also likes to read in the crates. So silly. Hopefully she continues reading. I will have to be sneaky so she loves books on her own and not because I want her to love them as much as I do!

Book review!

Ok, so I don't read Michael Crichton. I tried reading Jurassic Park but had to stop. I love science and find it really facinating but after reading 40 pages on the description of DNA I wanted shove needles in my eyes. Yes I said it DNA is boring! That, my friends, was 12 years ago. A friend told me that Congo was one of his favorite reads and I decided to give it a try. It did help that I enjoyed the movie. Who doesn't enjoy skull crushing hybrid monkeys and a talking gorilla?! And Tim Curry? He is my favorite. I digress.. I really enjoyed the read. It is fast paced and plot driven. Mr Crichton does give background factual information about the Congo but it is small blurbs and not a Golden Corral buffet regurgitation. It was a little anticlimactic because I had seen the flick but I was still able to hype myself up for the final scene.

This gem of a book will be next! It looks a little morbid but the description is hilarious! I can't believe they were even allowed to publish it. :)

My newest obsession

So I downloaded a copy of Twilight over iTunes for my 3G. I absolutely loved it! It has made me change my mind about purchasing a Kindle2.

It did take 6 days to listen to the book, but my imagination triumphed and I discovered that my "Forks" and my "Meadow" was richly rewarded. I could just lie back and visualize and see everything more distinctly. I LOVE IT!

It was convenient to clean my house or do laundry and enjoy a book at the same time! I cannot imagine listening to a book the first time on CD but I definitely will buy an audio copy of some of my favorites.

Of course I had to begin with JK Rowling.... I am giddy with anticipation for my H.P. package to arrive!

Pirate Booty

This my friends is my pirate booty! My goal for this year was to buy less and save more.....I am adopting a kiddo this year. Anyhoo, I bought sixty eight books this year for $34! I am proud to announce that this year's total is five less than last year! Talk about fiscal responsibility! This definitely displays the model of a "sound future"! In a truly geeky Star Wars fashion, I waited two hours before the doors opened to be sure of my place in line. As the intercom counted the seconds down to zero..(I admit, I felt tingles) my heart started leaping in anticipation of the stories I would own that would fill my head over the next several weeks. Yes I said weeks.

All in all it was a good haul this year. I only spent 5 hours at the sale and the crazies only slightly bothered me! Although why anyone would decide not to wear deodorant in a packed warehouse with no A.C. I have no idea. Happy reading!!

She's the Man

So I have a hard time reading Shakespeare. I get lost in the language and the vocabulary and most of the time, it's just boring. So this movie, "She's the Man", is based off the Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare and it is marvelous! Viola is in love with Duke, who is in love with Olivia, who is in love with Sebastian who is really Viola! It is a highschool based movie, but I didn't have a hard time watching it as an adult. Amanda Bynes is hilarious and Channing Tatum is gorgeous. Each character has a secret and the timing of the reveal is spot on. The movie is so great I will try and attempt the orignal work by Mr Shakespeare.

Gone With the Wind

I read GWTW every February. It's only fitting since it the month of love. If you haven't read this book you are missing out. I cry every year when I read it, and never in the same spot. Scarlett makes me so angry but at the same time I feel sorry for her too. Rhett is awesome. I find myself hoping that each of them will get over themselves to make it right. I spend my time wishing, "If Only" Such as, If Only Scarlett let Rhett know she truly needed him. If Only Ashley had a spine and didn't humor Scarlett with her infatuation. If Only Scarlett trusted Melanie and truly realized what a great Lady she was. If Only Rhett stopped pretending what Scarlett did to him didn't hurt. Alas, my If Only's lead to tears every year. It is a brave, exciting book capable of making you feel so many different emotions you might feel like you could explode. Try it.

Monet's Garden

Well the annual Friends of the Library booksale is coming soon! This is my favorite weekend of the year. It beats Christmas hands down. This booksale is held at the "Made in Oklahoma" building at the fairgrounds every third week in February. Imagine, 25,000 square feet completely filled with books for me to chose. If that isn't heaven, I don't know what is. The picture of Monet's garden in Giverny is how the booksale makes me feel.... Calm, peaceful, happy....
